You can learn from any situation

It wasn't until I was old enough and others told me how horrible it was that I realized it.  It was somewhat normal for me at the time, which I believe was a coping mechanism to help me survive it.  Luckily I didn't fall into the trap of using it as an excuse to do bad things or not do anything with my life.  As a secondary point on this, there's something to learn from everyone you meet.  A CEO.  A homeless person.  A Scientist.  A clerk at a convenience store.  Everyone has had experiences and has knowledge you don't have and if you keep your mind open when encountering people you can end up learning a lot you might not have expected to.
